Discovery of a Gem in Centreville - Alto Plaza

The breathtaking Alto Plaza Restaurant and Lounge is part of a hot new trend towards fusion cuisine. Alto Plaza offers distinctly South American cuisine, tossed up with American ingredients, and spiced with a Mediterranean twist.

As you pull up on the rounded driveway, the gorgeous alabaster, three-story restaurant looks extravagant, but the menu is very reasonably priced.

For meat eaters, the Argentinian Skirt Steak ($19) comes in a Chimichurri sauce of olive oil, Italian and Latin American spices. A full array of seafood is also available, including Mexican Baby Scallops in an orange sauce ($9). An interesting dinner item was the Adobo marinated Mahi-Mahi, a Hawaiian fish in an authentic Southwestern sauce ($16).

A full bar mixes a variety of unique drinks, and the jazzed up blue hightops are a swank place to sit and sip cocktails. There’s even the "AP Lounge", a second floor esconce for the political or business crowd to kick back with their colleagues. The lounge’s bartenders add a little entertainment to the joint as they sling out classic martinis and funky Blue Hawaiians. Not only is smoking permitted in the lounge area but it’s almost encouraged with an in-house selection of fine cigars.

If you’re looking for some fresh air, seating on the balcony is available, and with a balcony wrapped around all three floors you’re sure to find a spot. During the summer the sun glows a warm yellow off the stone walls, and the open patios let the summer breeze blow right over your tapas and margaritas. The restaurant is a thankful escape from the metropolitan lights, allowing starlit dining if you find yourself staying into the late evening.

Regular dining room seating wraps around the three-storied center atrium. A wrought iron staircase sweeps up through the atrium. The Harlemesque light fixtures and vibrant art deco paintings create a glamorous 1920’s feel to the restaurant. In one room, laid with freshly polished wood floors, a gleaming Grand piano stands waiting for someone to request the Charlestown. Diners can watch the hustle and bustle from their tables or curl back in booth-furnished alcoves.

Dining and conference rooms are available by party reservation, and offer full-serviced privacy. Whether for an elegant dinner party, or after work affair out on the balcony, the private dining option allows guests to indulge in Alto Plaza’s unique cuisine, excellent service, and Ritzy atmosphere like an old-style Abolengo, Spanish gentleman. Dinner for two, with drinks is under $75. We recommend you call ahead for reservations at this Centreville hacienda.
