Pink Fashion Rocks

by Alison Street

Last night I attended Pink Fashion Rocks, a pink themed fashion show to raise money and awareness for breast cancer charities.  The event was a partnership between the Greater Washington Fashion Chamber of Commerce and Pink Jams. Pink Jams is the creation of Christa Floresca, a Washington DC native who created the event to support her fundraising for the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer.  Her goal is to raise $10,000 for the 2010 Walk taking place this May.  Artfully mixing her love of fashion, music and philanthropy this event brought together fashion designers, media and the rock band Charm City Devils.

Pink Fashion RocksThe event was held at Longview Gallery, an attractive art gallery in Northwest Washington and was attended by a young and stylish crowd.  Betsey Johnson, an American designer known for her outrageous and flirty dresses, was the headliner of the show and also participating were fourteen local designers, each of whom created a one of a kind piece for the show.  The local designers were partnered with notable Washingtonians as models, including the reigning Miss DC Jen Corey.
Upon entering the Longview Gallery, my friends and I mingled at the bar and had our photographs taken on the pink carpet.  The gallery had been given the rosy treatment with pink carpet, pink lighting and guests in every shade of fuchsia.  Then it was time for the show to begin.   Each of the participating fashion designers had created a signature garment ranging from evening gowns to casual clothes and swimsuits. Then it was Betsey Johnson’s turn to rock the runway with her flirty styles for day and night.  I loved a beautiful filmy pink gown worn by Miss DC 2008 Kate Marie Grinold and a fabulous pink swimsuit with matching cover up. The pink garments were available for silent auction immediately following the runway and live music show and there was lots of good natured competitive bidding going on. The lovely Angie Goff from WUSA 9 served as the emcee for the event.
Pink Fashion Rocks was a rocking good time. Congrats to Christa Floresca, the Greater Washington Fashion Chamber of Commerce and the local designers who rocked the runway.
