Food Festivals Bring Easy Summer Fun

Whether you are living or vacationing in the DC area, don't miss the opportunity to get involved in the entertainment of The Asian Food and Tennis Festival in Reston, Virginia. Food exhibits, wine tastings, food pairing and cooking lessons can all be found at various DC festivals this month. Food festivals can be a family event or romantic summer evening get-away.

The Asian Food and Tennis Festival in Reston, Virginia, is a two day event that focuses on the culture of Asian countries. Each year the festival, while celebrating all Asian backgrounds, picks one specific country to be the focus of the festival. This year, the festival will focus on the Philippines. The festival includes not only food from many Asian countries, but music, cultural performances, beauty pageants, fashion, crafts and more.

Food will be prepared by more than 30 Asian restaurants in the Metropolitan area. Many of them will prepare dishes for the festival that are not featured on their daily menus. There will be items for sale from Destination Asia, where 12 Asian Embassies and Organizations exhibit their culture and art.

The annual event is sponsored by the Thai Tennis Organization in America (TTOA), the Reston Association and Singha Beer to promote growth in the sport of tennis, as well as to heighten the understanding of the Asian culture. The festival includes cultural elements from Thailand, China, India, Philippines, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Indonesia, etc.

As the festival is showcasing the Philippines, it will include many of the age-old traditions that have been developed over hundreds of years in the country's islands, all 7,107 of them. Games, contests and interactive displays will also be featured at the festival to celebrate the Philippines. With attractions such as these, the event is family oriented and a great activity to bring kids to before they start back at school.

Several Tennis attractions will also occur in conjunction with the Festival. If you're not an experienced tennis player, don't worry because free tennis clinics will be given. Attractions include the all-day Tennis Zone, which includes a tennis Wii tournament, the Tennis Block Party, and the USTA Pro Circuit $75,000 Women's Challenger Wildcard Tournament, the fastest serve contest with raffle prizes.

The Asian Food and Tennis Festival 2010 will be held July 31-August 1. Times of the event are Saturday 10 am - 10 pm, and Sunday 11 am – 6 pm. The festival will be located at the Lake Newport Tennis Facility, 11452 Baron Cameron Avenue, Reston, Virginia. Free Shuttle parking services will be available. Best of all, the festival is free to the public.
